It was quite a surprise, I have to be honest.

I think we don't really have a hardback culture here in Australia.

So it was something that wasn't even on the horizon.

So it was an absolute delight and probably didn't think it was going to happen until I actually held one myself.

So it's pretty exciting, Kate.

Well, I've only met Marla once, but she actually handed me my first literary award.

So she might not remember, but it's in my mind.

Tell us what it was.

Well, so what had happened was I'd actually won the Scarlet Stiletto the year before, but I couldn't attend the ceremony because I was violently ill with morning sickness.

And so the next year I turned up at the next ceremony in

carrying my schooling newborn.

No, she was very well behaved actually throughout the ceremony.

And I was able to get the award and say thanks to everybody, including Marla, who gave a very lovely speech.

Yeah, that's right.

It's one of the largest crime competitions in Australia, one of the richest, so it's excellent to win.
