The book's called I'm Not Your Bruh, 21 Keys to Sound Parenting, and really it's a response to what I think is permission first parenting where we're basically just like watered down.
You're trying to be your buddy with your kids instead of actually being an authority figure.
I have two teenage kids, Kingston's 18, brought him here with me, and Saxon's 16.
And so the book is really geared towards parents with younger children, because I don't pretend to know how to raise teenagers yet.
Teenage years are challenging for sure.
But yeah, I think parenting, taking parenting seriously, being a present parent are all things that I think in today's day and age have gotten really watered down.
The name of the book comes from this T-shirt I saw.
It says, Bruh, formerly known as Mom.
And I saw that and I was like, ha, giggled for a second.
I was like, no, wait a minute, you're not bruh.
Don't let your kids just be like, hey bro, mom, bro, can you make me a sandwich or whatever?
You actually have to be the parent.
You actually have to be distinct from their friend group.
And parents who are trying to be buddies with their kids as friends and be the cool kids, their cool mom or whatever,
to me has led to a pretty interesting generation that we're seeing.
I think Gen Z has a lot of challenges ahead.
Yeah.
And what they don't need is you abdicating all your responsibility to actually parent them and teach them and have them develop character, right?
Yeah.
Oh, maybe, yeah.
