He was born in 1905.
He died in 1964.
He was persecuted.
He wrote the most profound, almost like docudramas about, or historical fiction about World War II and about pogroms.
He was a war correspondent, and he really saw the war at first, and it's a miracle that he survived not only the war, but the post-war persecution of him by the Soviet authorities.
But thank goodness his novels remained.
There's Life and Fate.
There's one called Все течет, Everything Flows, or I think it's called Forever Flow, Forever something in English.
It's a marvelous novel.
That's my favorite.
And then there's this newly translated hefty volume called Stalingrad.
a major figure in 20th century Russian literature, and someone who really delved into the causes and the aftermath of war.
