So he tended to focus in on droughts, on UFOs, on power blackouts, hurricanes, tornadoes, heat and cold spells, large-scale systems. They're very difficult to evaluate statistically. It's not like a clean laboratory experiment.

Well, he did repeat the demonstrations once. I have documents for 160-some of them, and I would say offhand that roughly two-thirds of them worked out the way he said they would, and very unusual things happened that probably had, just my intuitive sense, maybe a probability of happening of 1% or less.

Sure. Those are interesting experiments, but they're different than the things that he claimed to be able to do. I convened a meeting. of researchers, J. Allen Hynek showed up, and many other researchers to try and get the scientific community behind doing some serious testing with Ted Owens. J. Allen Hynek, who was very familiar with the case, said, I wouldn't touch him with a 10-foot pole.

And the reason is because the phenomenon he produces come out of the unconscious and they're unpredictable and not into it. So I wasn't, you know, I was a graduate student at the time doing this kind of research. One of my professors at Berkeley, a parapsychologist, resigned from my committee because I was engaged in looking at UFO phenomenon. Really? Yeah. Uh-huh. Why would they do that?

Because they believed that UFOs and parapsychology should not mix. And there are still parapsychologists today who hold to that belief that, you know, it's like we've got one paranormal science and we shouldn't mix it with another one because it would be too difficult or too controversial.

I think the evidence is overwhelming that they've been around for a long time, probably going back to ancient times. I think, as you expressed earlier, the hypothesis that they could be time travelers from the future. I think that's a very viable hypothesis. Yeah, it's my favorite one. But we don't know. It's a mystery. And you referred to Jeffrey Kripal earlier.
