Setting Expectations on IUD Expulsion Among Patients with Heavy Menstrual Bleeding

Creinin, MD While the use of levonorgestrel 52-mg intrauterine device (IUD) has been shown to reduce blood loss in patients with heavy menstrual bleeding, these same patients are at an increased likelihood of expelling the IUD. That’s why it’s important to set realistic expectations with patients, as Dr. Mitch Creinin from the University of California Davis Health explains.
