Chapter 1: What was the outcome of the Blue Jays vs Yankees series?
All right. Welcome to Blue Jays Talk with Jeff Blair and Kevin Barker. As you all expected, the Blue Jays are coming out of New York with a split of that four-game series against the Yankees. 2-0 win tonight. A couple of one-run losses in there, Kevin Barker. And I'll ask you the same question I'm going to ask the callers. The numbers are 416-870-0590. Star 590, 1-888-666-0590.
590-590 is the text line. Pretty simple question.
Chapter 2: How did the Blue Jays bullpen perform in the game?
Split with the Yankees. There's still a lot that needs to get right for this team. Glad he still needs to start hitting. There's some things that need to happen, but very simple question. Do you feel better about the Jays after these four games than you did going into the series? Kevin Barker.
You're asking me that question.
I'm asking you and the callers. But, I mean, you know, while the callers are calling, you can answer the question. This is how it normally works.
Chapter 3: What insights can we gain about Spencer Miles' potential?
You understand that. After the first two games, you know, I think this is best case scenario. You were looking to fire people after the first two games. Well, we did take texters that were saying fire John Snyder. Look, I think after tonight, with the way the pitching staff looks as a whole. I think you've got to be very confident with that, right?
I mean, Jeff Hoffman, look, I don't know if he's turned the corner, but the spin looks better. I mean, consistently he's throwing harder. I mean, that's a breath of fresh air to watch him go out there and kind of do those kind of things. You know, you like the rotation.
Chapter 4: What did Jeff Hoffman contribute during the game?
Whoever they're throwing out there now seems to be giving the lineup a chance. It's just the lineup. It's the defense. Can you clean those two things up? Get a little bit better at that, but absolutely. I mean, again, look at the American League, Jeff. It's not real good. We can't say that anymore. It's true. Stop it.
Chapter 5: Why is the Blue Jays offense struggling despite the win?
It's true. Basically, the only reason they're still in this thing, this early in the season, is because of what the American League's not doing.
At some point, somebody's going to stop sucking.
Well, they haven't yet. So it'd be a good time to stop sucking. We're going to continue to keep having the conversation. until that happens in the American League. But right now it hasn't. And, you know, this is a great ā this is a big step forward just, you know, kind of doing what they needed to do to come back. And, again, I get back to it.
Chapter 6: What trade options could improve the Blue Jays' lineup?
Good pitching sort of cures everything.
Big boy hitting. And that's what they got. Big boy hitting. They could have won all four games. I mean, they could have. Two one-run loss. They could have won all four games. Anyhow, 14 strikeouts recorded by 5J's pitchers tonight. Braden Fisher got it going, was awfully good.
Chapter 7: How does the pitching staff compare to other teams in the league?
Adam Macko came in. Spencer Miles, you know, another step forward. And, you know, hands up if those of you out there thought John Schneider lost his marbles when he was sending Jeff Hoffman out in the ninth inning. So, Kevin, let's start with the pitching. I think that's a good place. We are going to pick a player of the game because the player of the game is brought to you by Capital One.
Capital One, giving Canadians credit for 30 years.
Your player of the game is... I think this is an easy one. It's got to be Spencer Miles. Absolutely.
Chapter 8: What are the upcoming challenges for the Blue Jays?
The four and a third, the six Ks, the sneaky arm swing, the fastball in, the big curve. The slider was better tonight. The 12 of 16 strike ones is a big deal. just sort of hold and serve, right? I mean, that's basically what he did. He went out there. He took the ball. You know, he got through the middle of their order a couple times. That's a big deal.
Boy, when you can go there and do that kind of thing and keep your team sort of in it just to, you know, kind of pass the baton to whoever's coming in next, the eighth and ninth inning guys. So for me, that's an easy one. It's got to be Spencer Miles.
Yeah, the Jays. Boy, once again, they had a lot of opportunities to score. They did cash in a couple of times. Dalton Varsha with the first inning innings. double driving in George Springer, who had two runs, including a home run in the seventh inning with one out.
And as we mentioned, Jeff Hoffman came in and got us through the ninth inning, three up, three down, a couple of strikeouts in that frame. And the Jays, again, two nothing winners over the New York Yankees. They'll have, I would imagine, a pretty comfortable run Quick flight home tonight, and then the Pittsburgh Pirates come into town. Claudio in King City on the text line.
If we accomplish nothing else in this series, we prove to the Yankees that a depleted and scuffling lineup, we can still play them tough. Let's get a little winning streak going before we get some players back. Props to all of our pitchers tonight. And a negative note. Kaz has to be moved.
I presume he's talking about, well, he was talking about Okamoto has to be moved down in the order till he gets right again. And Davis needs some at bats in Buffalo, James and river bourgeois, amazing pitching, especially miles and Hoffman. Do you think Clement and Springer are heating up? Also? I find it funny that him in is hit by a pitch called back, then hit by pitch again.
especially since the starter was wrote on who complained in the playoffs about him and as running his hands in a swing and getting hit, it's kind of actually, it's kind of actually interesting. Yeah, the lineup has been depleted. We talked about it. I'm not a big fan of this, but this is one of those wins.
This is one of those series where I think if you're in the Jays and you're trying to sell each other again in the 26 versus 1 thing, you could probably do it here. Because as much as the Yankees were scuffling coming in this, they were 2-7 in their last nine, did not look good against the Mets. I mean, the fact of the matter is,
I've got to think the Yankees took a look at the Jays lineup, Jays lineup, not hitting. And they probably thought, especially when they went into games there, they probably thought they're coming out of this thing with three, if not four.
