Well, Caitlin, in what many had dubbed the most uneven pitching matchup of the season, I think when the probables were announced, today's game really, and I mean really, flipped expectations right on their heads. Patrick Corbin was phenomenal today. His longest outing of the year, his most strikeouts of the year.
The Jays offense with an effort very reminiscent of 2025, which was terrific to see a lot of passing of the baton. Working deep counts. Great stuff against Paul Skeens and the Pirates bullpen to boot. A 5-2 win for the Jays. They improved to 25-27.

They have won six of their last eight games and have locked up a series win. They will actually go, not something we've said a lot this year, they will aim for a sweep tomorrow with Dylan Cease on the mound.
Yeah, no, it was a great win. And as you said, I think the comparison to the 2025 team is apt. It felt like that throughout this game. I think the way that they approached schemes was very reminiscent of how they approached a lot of games last year. And you said it, it's the passing the baton kind of mentality, some really good competitive long at bats.

I think ahead of the game, John Schneider kind of talked about how it was going to be a a day where the Blue Jays are going to have to wear their hard hats and have their lunch pails in the sense that it was going to be a tough game. You're going to have to put the work in to be able to grind out some maybe long at bats and work the pitch come out for schemes.
And ultimately, the Blue Jays were able to do that. And then they were able to get some decisive hits early and then in a big moment later in the game as well. So all in all, a really great effort from the Blue Jays offense. as well as their pitching staff.

So it's not as though they're singular in that regard, but it does feel like we are seeing... I just remember the other day, John Schneider had said in his pregame meeting, it might have been yesterday, honestly, and he had said when he was asked to give the scouting report, quote-unquote, on the first 50 games of the season, and yeah, I said this to Blair yesterday, but his summation was...

inconsistent but trending in the right direction and it does it feels like that's like the perfect way to describe how the season is going at least right this second things can change on a dime as we know but that does kind of feel like where things are headed yeah and it's not dissimilar to the way that last year even started I think we all forget
how the year started because of the way that it ended. But I think that the Blue Jays were kind of inconsistent and maybe trending in the right direction right around this time last year. And so I think coming into this year, the expectations were so much higher. You wanted to see the Blue Jays kind of hit the ground running a little bit. They weren't able to do that.
But the reason why baseball is a long season is, you know, because sometimes it takes – teams a little wild to get into the groove of things.
Chapter 8: What challenges do the Blue Jays face moving forward this season?
It doesn't click immediately. And yeah, looking at their recent stretch of play, I think you have to also give the Blue Jays credit for winning games that they should quote unquote win, right? Looking at some teams they've played recently, going back to a couple weekends ago against the Angels. So you win the series against an Angels team that, you know, is not playing competitively.
And then, yeah, you You're in tough against the Rays. They're playing really well. But then you got the Yankees at a good time where they've had some ups and downs this year. You took advantage of a Tigers team that's pretty depleted by injury right now, able to win that series as well. And then you look at a Pirates team that
are, you know, competitive this year, but not necessarily a team that has been totally consistent, much like the Blue Jays. So they're 500 now and the Blue Jays are getting closer and closer to getting to 500.
So the Blue Jays have done a good job outside of those race series of then at least taking advantage of teams that are either coming in cold or just like not a not a competitive team this year.

A guy, Paul Skeens, who is the best pitcher in baseball right now and looks to be one of the best pitchers for a long time. It's intimidating. So for him to go out and have the start that he did. But the other turning point was also Jesus Sanchez and what he was able to do in the sixth inning. I'm torn between these two. I think I'm going to give it to... I was going back and forth, honestly.
I'm deciding right now as I'm talking. I'm giving it to Corbin, I think.
