Chapter 1: What is discussed at the start of this section?
But we were nowhere at halftime. This should have been 100 points. Blues fans, we feel way better than anyone in this stadium. We win, and I'll say it. Our lead is off. It's a loss, but it's off. I walk away feeling better about anything this season. The Blues are all the way back. Keep boss forever. Boss forever. Leads off. That's the other mention. Zen, enjoy the heat, you rat!
All right, and welcome back on this Monday, the 11th of May for Overreaction Monday. Going to do what we do best with all the rats in here. Shinboner Sam's also made a move downstairs, so you know when Shinboner's down here, North Ghana, right? It's very rare. And it's great to be here in your ears, in your eyes, and in your hearts, just inside you in general.
Talk about the greatest game in the world, and that's football. So, football is the greatest game in the world. We had a round where Carlton outscored the back-to-back premiers. Port Adelaide lose another heartbreaking game in heartbreaking fashion in the final 30 seconds. Then the GWS Giants do the funniest thing ever and troll Essendon on their banner. The biggest troll of all time.
Suns in Darwin. Okay, so Cozzy's in hot water, which I know, Ash, you're over there freaking out about. You've been checking Twitter relentlessly waiting for an update from, I guess, well, Ralphie will be 30 years behind us, so don't wait for his tweet. But, you know, Xander's just at a, you know, outside the D somewhere at an airport just waiting.
I don't know why he'd be at the airport, they didn't travel, but he'd be waiting there for some reason. So how are you feeling, Ash? Nervous times for you?
I don't think he's getting anything.
No, he can't.
I'm a Melbourne fan and I think that he deserves a week. That's what he said. What did you say in the comment? Yeah, that's exactly what I said. I said, I'm a Melbourne fan and I think he deserves a week. And then everyone's like, Well, if you're a fucking Melbourne fair, why would you say he deserves a week?
You should want him to play. Yeah. Well, that's okay. That's the spirit of what we do here. Yeah, we just trick. We just get into each other because our teams are sometimes good, they're sometimes bad. Now, before we get into the round of football, let's talk about Jameson's smooth mover of the week. And how can we not talk about the whiz? He's so good.

Chapter 2: What was the Jameson Smooth Mover of the Week?
We're now the best 1-8 team in the history of the league.
And you know what? You could have actually been 2-7 if Levi Ashcroft doesn't flop.
I won't miss him.
You were very close.
Yeah, we were. And normally I have a lot of PTSD from going to that ground just in recent times, the 2023 prelim, which came up on my feet a lot leading to this game. where I said that felt like a long time ago and a different team. Then we had the first elimination final, maybe was it 2024, where that was just over straight away because we were so injured.
So going there, I didn't have lots of expectations or big hopes, but also in my stomach, I said, hey, do we have an honourable loss in us? And yeah, we do, which is great. So I'm so proud. I said after the game, I walked out of the Gabba
way feeling way better than Brisbane fans on that specific game now are they going to probably go back to back to back yes but in that moment I was walking out the gates I won and current fans won and that's all I need sometimes all you need is a little bit of hope yep absolutely so it was great and let's not forget the first half was absolute dog shit so let's not rule that out It was so bad.
Well, I think the turning point of that game was when Kripa took the boys into the huddle at halftime. Well, that's when you know it's bad. Yeah. Anytime you see your captain doing a huddle, a pre-huddle before the actual spray, you know things aren't going great. He would have said, guys, just a heads up, going to spray the living shit out of us. So make sure your eyes up looking at him.
Don't break eye contact. And sure enough, we heard, because we caught the same flight with them... on the way home on Saturday morning that he gave one of the all-time sprays at halftime.

Chapter 3: How did the Blues perform in their recent game?
At least he's trying to make something happen. So that wasn't where I went, oh, we're going to lose because of Adam Saad. First off, absolutely stunk. I feel really good. I feel like maybe after halftime, including Michael, he decided to say, screw it. If we don't go down and I'm going to lose my job and we're all going to be blasted, let's just go down swinging. They just played free.
They weren't part of a cult. Like he opened the doors for the Colt and said, be free. Don't tell anyone what I said or what I tried to brainwash you with. Just play and be free. And they ran out of the Colt and said, this is great. I love being free and be able to run and carry and make mistakes and hit targets. Even my kicks inside the corridor. I was like, is this the same team?
It was awesome. So I went to a different spot of the ground to watch the final quarter because my friends were there. So I went and sat with them and I had the bird's eye view.
of the game and I did notice the second that Carlton turned over for the first time this season I've seen them actually spread out and make the ground bigger and then they were able to go out wide and hit corridor and take the game on whereas they hadn't done that the whole season they'd just gone contest to contest it's like they figured it out that you can play a different style this year and you need to you need to adapt
Yeah, it's like they, exactly like you said, they figured out how you actually can win other contests other than the actual inside contest at a stoppage. There's other ways to win it. But there's a lot more football field to play on. But they finally discovered that there's way more grass out there to play on. And then in the third quarter, they're winning the inside contest and then spreading.
It was just a good... And a loss where you don't want to lose games of football and the expectations for Carlton is to win a flag every year, rightly or wrongly. It's just what it is with the club. I walked away going, okay, at least there's some kind of light here. Like Jagger finally playing more midfield minutes. Thank God. Chera actually not doing a hammy and playing four quarters. Thank God.
It's rare to see. Yes.
Yeah. Walsh got going as well. You just know Harry Mackay took the dropping of Ben Mackay seriously as well.
Yeah, he did.

Chapter 4: What are the expectations for the North Melbourne team this season?
He can leave. That's all good. I know he's going to bust his ass while he's still here. Aren't the rumours set by you? No, someone else got rid of him. Oh, really? I did it as a hard joke. Yeah, someone took it seriously out there. So, yeah, Harry was really good. Someone did say that Harry just looks fresh because he doesn't have to play two games of football every week now.
That Ben's not playing. I want to report on how Ben went. Do we know? Can someone check Ben's VFL stats?
15.
It's okay. 15 and 7. That's... It's a lot more than he had in the NFL. That's great. That's probably a recall. That's a recall coming up. So, look, there's some hopes and signs of being a good football team again. And that's like not a great. I didn't say great. Good.
And I promised that I would never, ever get excited about this team ever again unless they gave me reason to believe and get excited. I'm not super excited. I'm just not disappointed. And I'm not sad and angry. Which is nice because we've won a game against Richmond and I felt way worse about how I feel right now.
You can be extremely hopeful about the rest of the season now as well rather than just pure despair and sadness because you saw them adapt to a new game plan and hopefully they can just play that out the whole season now and show you something and win the grand final.
Well, no, no. Now, it isn't completely out of the question.
No.
but it's not looking good at one and eight. It's just- Stranger things have happened. In saying all of that, how happy I am, and it was nice to see them play this brand new brand of football in the second half. We do have, if you think about it, the exact same problem still. We just universe the problem to make it feel like it's a new thing. We're just bad at first halves now.

Chapter 5: What insights do the hosts share about the Giants' recent performance?
I rate it massively. You have to. I like the Giants, and they got on everyone's radar, and we talked about them. Obviously, one, because they were good, but they just talked that shit for a long time. And then Jacob Gaynor leaves and goes to Tassie, and they lost their edge. They lost their soul. It's like he was the most important person on that team.
And they stopped talking smack, and they got boring and irrelevant, and now they're back to, let's just talk shit. We don't care about anything else.
Wait, when did they get boring and irrelevant?
Chapter 6: How do injuries impact the performance of Essendon and St Kilda?
They've done no memes this year. You reckon? Nah. Ash, is that true? It roasted me in opening round. Yeah, but nothing like pointed.
There's been less.
Less, yeah. I mean, but they haven't been able to win to be able to back it up, you know, because they've been so injured. So maybe there was something going through the stadium.
Chapter 7: What are the key takeaways from the discussion on Adelaide's season so far?
Well, yeah.
I think they're getting back to it. They're probably like, did they go out in straight sets last year in finals?
Yeah.
oh yeah we we beat them up in ng and they lost they got out yeah yeah that's right they probably just wanted to come in with a serious more serious angle well they had so much joy by ruining someone else's day yeah for as long as we've known them and they've lost that maybe alex rance did some mentoring no he's the sons yeah the sons have now yeah felt kind of bad that's what we'll get to their game soon but that's why they felt bad for not beating absolute out of the saints because rancy said they feel bad about it
I don't know. I like the fact that they found themselves getting their swagger and that they play better when they're taking the piss out of the other team. That's a good thing for us neutrals. Well, they weren't playing that well in the first half.
Second half.

Chapter 8: How do the hosts evaluate the significance of milestone games for players?
Yeah, even this whole thing. Essendon looks so good and tidy. They had their game plan and then enforced it. But then you see Kingsley go, instead of probably spraying the team, he goes, all right, I'm going to go on a tactical mindset and really flip this thing. I feel like he needs so much credit for this coaching performance.
Yeah. I mean, he could have easily just sprayed him again, but I feel like they're kind of numb to that.
now i don't feel like when he sprays and they they get any kind of feeling out of it he's used up all his sprays yeah there's you now have to change your whole turn about how you speak and just go tactically yeah well his the tactical game plan was you know bring those half forwards up make it harder for essendon to take on that kick in the middle and they ended up having to go back to safety and kicking it bombing down along like long down to the contest it completely changed them yeah they were good yeah that was okay like that i guess the good is not a word but they were they
They were okay. I wasn't blown away by them. I didn't walk away going, oh, they're so dangerous. Like, be careful for them. If they get healthy, they're dangerous. They're still figuring themselves out as well. I felt better about Eston. I felt better about them going into the game. Eston and I love Sullivan Robey. Said it last week. I think he's so good. You know what I worked out? He was dog.
There's probably a three-minute period, I don't know if it was the third or the fourth, where he's in the midfield on Toby Green. And for three minutes, they're just beating the shit out of each other. Hmm. In the midfield. Just contest after contest. And he was loving it. He smiled at one point. They had a good one with him. He's a gun. He's so, so, so good. So back to the banner thing.
Brad Scott said that they were desperate for relevancy. And that's why they did it. And that makes sense. I get it. I get what he's saying. When you do play football in a genuine shit hole of a stadium and there's 9,000 people there and you let horses drive cars around for four weeks, you have to do some stuff. You have to do some stuff to people support you, you know? Optically, it's not great.
But I love it. Need more of that. More of that. I love that Essendon also got out to a 26-point lead. So they should have won this game. Probably look at it as an Essendon fan and go, oh, should have probably won this one. One that got away.
That's just what I alluded to before. Like, GWS are just so professional. Adam Kingsley, such a good coach, needs his credit where his credit's due. He completely flipped the whole game plan and tightened it up, made Essendon kick down long, and they were able to use the corridor more.
It looked so much more dangerous in that second half. When they give the ball to Lockie Ash and Whitfield, it's over. Well, Lockie Ash is playing more midfield role now. I mean, he's just so damaging. Just takes so much space when he gets the ball and sprints and then hits these targets. It's just what they want.
