Chapter 1: What happened during the Scottish Cup Final?
It's Clyde One Super Scoreboards Open Line 0141 951 1025
Well, it's not often the losing manager in a Scottish Cup final gets serenaded by the winning fans, but that was the reality a moment or two ago when Neil Lennon and his Dunfermline players went up to get their runners-up medals. A brilliant effort to get to the final, knocked out three top-flight teams along the way, but ultimately fell short on the day.
In case you're left in any doubt, though, who the main man is in the eyes of the Celtic fans... You may be able to hear Martin O'Neill's name ringing around Hamden as Celtic prepare to go and get their winner's medals and ultimately their hands on the trophy. It was a very straightforward afternoon, Gordon Dale.
There's been nothing straightforward about Celtic's journey to get to this point, though.
Yeah, obviously winning the game, firm favourites, Gordon, looking for a double.

Chapter 2: How did Celtic secure their double victory?
For the Dunfermline to get anything, they would have had to get the first goal and it was too easy for Celtic.
2-0 at half-time, you can't see any way back for them, but all the credit in the world, and you look at this Celtic team, and we've criticised them most of the season, there's no doubt about that, we've criticised their formation, we've criticised players, everything about it, Martin O'Neill was the difference, and that's why Celtic are going up to lift the trophy and claim a double.
Yeah, here comes Celtic going up the stairs. Many of these players have made this walk a good few times over their career. And for some of them, I'm sure the feeling never gets old. They will be led up the stairs by Alistair Johnson, who's returned to the team to help see Celtic over the line, both in League and Cup. His absence clearly felt at the difficult parts of the campaign.
They've all played their part. You look at Benjamin Negrin's goals, Arne Engels scoring today. Another story that perhaps gets lost behind him is Williamy Sinisalo. For so often he had to sit and wait and watch Kasper Schmeichel.
That was just another bizarre episode in a truly chaotic season for Celtic at that stage when Kasper Schmeichel got injured and pretty much retired and Sinisalo came in to take his place. You forget the January signings almost didn't even have to make an impact.

Chapter 3: What challenges did Dunfermline face in the final?
Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain goes up for his medal. Didn't really have to make the impact many people thought he might. And then Daizen Maeda, how can you understate his contribution in the last few games? Scoring again today, taking his end of season tally through the roof. He's really been in such red hot form to round off the campaign. And Kelechi Iheanacho as well.
He's had to play a very specific role, of course. Never really able to start matches and impact them. And even if we're being critical, you saw at the end today, it's not always easy for him to impact the game the way you would want your striker to do so. But he did get a wonderful goal, so we shouldn't let that be overshadowed at all this afternoon. Martin O'Neill in front of Callum McGregor.
They've proven to be a very successful duo for Celtic. at the end of the season. Callum McGregor is about to get his hands on the Scottish Cup for the seventh time, many of them as captain, and this one will go down very, very well with these Celtic fans, Gordon Dale.
Yeah, as I said earlier, Gordon, I don't think any Celtic fan thought that they would win the league and then go on to complete the double here this afternoon. Obviously, playing against a championship team, I said about Martin O'Neill, but Martin O'Neill can only do so much. You've got to give Celtic players a bit of credit because we had written them off. We didn't fancy them at all.
They were in a bad, bad place. Their recruitment come in for so much criticism, but they've got over a line.
12 months ago, it was tears for Callum McGregor in the Scottish Cup final. Well, it is cheers this afternoon as he raises that famous old trophy into the Glasgow sky and the fireworks matching the explosive mood
amongst the Celtic fans, the full staff on there, on the podium as well, soaking in the moment, showing the team effort, even some of the injured players that Celtic really could have been doing with this season, like Cameron Carter-Vickers, and who knows, this might be the end of the road for many of them, Rio Hatate shooted and bootied so often a key part on days like this, surplus to requirements today, but soaking up the moment nevertheless, and as you said Hugh Kevins earlier on,
It's not necessarily been easy at times for Celtic this season.

Chapter 4: Who were the standout players for Celtic in the final?
But in the end up, it's a pretty familiar feeling for these Celtic fans.
Yes, and they are delighted. But it will go down in history as one of the most remarkable seasons that Celtic since 1888 have ever negotiated. Three managers, all manner of disruption on and off the park. But order brought to the club by Martin O'Neill. But for Martin O'Neill, this would not have happened. There was a sequence of games. Motherwell absolutely took Celtic to school at Fair Park.
Rangers then beat Celtic 3-1 at Celtic Park. And the start to 2026 looked calamitous. And then... The decision was taken to get rid of Wilfred Nancy and bring Martin O'Neill back for a second time until the end of the season. And the reason why those players are on the podium just now and the reason why they also have league winners medals at home is Martin O'Neill.
Yeah, Cammy Bell, it feels like order, the word you used there. It's probably the most fitting of all because this is the order of things on Scottish Cup final day and it doesn't always go that way of course and even under Brendan Rodgers Celtic had their moment against Aberdeen but so often this has been the way the domestic season has ended and we mentioned a 43rd title.
Scottish Cup success sorry so many of them coming in that recent generation yeah but again you look back at this season Hugh mentioned it there that you look back three months ago there was huge doubts in the Celtic fans that they could do this they could win a title they could win a Scottish Cup because there was so much turmoil happening at the club Hugh's right.
Listen, Martin Neal needs to take a huge amount of credit for this. The players, I give credit to a lot of the players last week. They handled the pressure. They got the job done. For me, Martin Neal's brought an element of calm back to the club. When he walked in the door, there was a lot of outside noise.
There was a lot of disruption between the fans and the board and players not happy at the club. Everything was going wrong. Martin Neal just brought an element of calm. And what he did was started to bring belief into the club and belief into the players, belief into the fans again. And he's absolutely delivered. The players have delivered today. All the pressure was on them.
They've got the job done and they've got another trophy.
Yeah, I mean, Robin DL, the bigger questions will be asked in the coming hours and days and weeks for Martin O'Neill and so on, but If it's the end, then it ends on a high, and if not, he's breathing optimism into these Celtic fans ahead of next season, which, again, you wouldn't have thought would have been the case not so long ago.

Chapter 5: What impact did Martin O'Neill have on Celtic's success?
You've seen it this season, the recruitment was really, really bad. There was a split between the supporters, a split in the board. All of a sudden, Martin O'Neill had to come in and take all that on board and put everything together. He's achieved that, Gordon, he's achieved that. So Celtic, if they're really going to get their work done, has to be within days now.
Is Martin O'Neill staying on as a manager? Is he staying on in any capacity? Are they a new manager already lined up? These are answers that the Celtic fans want.
I think it needs to come out very early, Monday morning. Celtic are in a football club, this is quite harsh, they've been lucky this season because they've got away with it and the way they've dropped points over the course of the season, the turmoil with the managers.
credit to Martin O'Neill as we've already said but for Celtic to go and win the double they lost the cup final as well they've been in both cup finals they've won the league and we're standing here today saying it's been a bad season for them look at these Celtic fans today at Hampden they're ready to party they've won again they're over the moon but from the outside looking in there's a lot of work to be done going forward over the summer well maybe those conversations can wait even half an hour or so let the Celtic players and fans enjoy their success at Hampden 0141951
1025 and Chris is on the line. How would you sum that up, Chris? Are you there? Yes, Chris. Can you hear us? How would you sum that up?
Wow! What an afternoon! What an afternoon. Hats off to Dunfermline fans. I thought they were credited to Dunfermline. Neil Wenning, their side, they set up well. The fans, they were there the whole day. And they cheered their team on, which was nice. And to be fair, we should see teams like that at the top flight. Big, big, big crowd today. But wow, what a season. What a season. Long season.
Neil Wenning, been in the office with Doug, it was hard today. But Martin O'Neill coming back, wow, that's special. I think he'll be here next year. I don't think Celtic's got good managers in the outlook, so I'm not going to be able to be here next season.
Did you ever think this season would end this way, Chris, a couple of months ago?
I really didn't, no. To end it on a double. The fact is, half our team is going to be leaving. I can't remember the angles. I think they've made it. Quite a few big players are going to leave Celtic. In response to Chris's wow, of course, it has the wow factor.

Chapter 6: What does the future hold for Celtic after this victory?
Yeah, this is quite something, Hugh Kevins. There's sometimes an accusation, maybe levelled at the Celtic fans and players, that they do win a lot. Does it ever get old or does it ever have the same intensity? It certainly doesn't look like they're getting fed up of this today.
No, we've mentioned just about every person employed by Celtic, but you come back to the supporters. They have been... through the emotional roller coaster put through the ringer they have protested this season against the way the club has been run they have made their feelings known on and off the park And today, that's why they get behind Martin O'Neill so much.
Because they know that no one else could have done this. No one else could have brought Celtic to this moment. And even the man they dislike, Dermot Desmond, the principal shareholder. Dermot Desmond was the one who telephoned Martin O'Neill. and brought him back.
And it's just as well that Martin O'Neill was of a mind to say to Dermot Desmond, OK, I'll come back a second time, although you really shouldn't have let me go the first time. But the supporters, this is their day as well because they have been in a state of high anxiety, at times driven to despair, but now they can celebrate a league and cup double.
Stephen's on the line, 01419511025. What did you make of that, Stephen? Hello. Stephen, we've got you loud and clear. What did you make of that? Oh, brilliant. Absolutely brilliant. But listen, do you remember I was on your show about seven weeks ago and I told you Celtic were going to win the league? Oh, is it all laughing and joking? Who's laughing and joking now?
I don't remember it, Stephen, to be honest. I'll take your word for it. Oh, no, you put me on it. It's just God's denying. We're all here. Aye, but it might be you who'd have done the show that night, God, if it was somebody else. Ah, right, see, that's why I don't remember it. But you always had faith then, you always had faith this season would end well.
Some weeks ago, right, I said, Selby's going to win the league, I told you why. Because we've got that never fade attitude we had, we hang, we go, we go, we go, right? But anyway, right, I think Martin O'Neill's going to stay. And the reason I think he's going to stay is because we gave Yang a new contract, I think it was on Friday, right?
That's the fourth person to get a new contract on the team that's there now, right? So, why have you been out on these new contracts and not really wanted to be there? I mean, I take the point, Hugh, up to a point, but, I mean, Luke McCowan, as an example, Liam Scales, their contracts were a good few weeks ago, so if that theory's right, then that would mean that we knew way back then.
that Martin O'Neill was going to be the next manager, and I'm not sure that is the case.

Chapter 7: How will player transfers affect Celtic's next season?
I would give both of them a new deal.
Yeah, listen, it's all about opinions. I sort of disagree. I don't think they'll wait until next year.
Even Iheanacho?
Yeah, listen, he's an impact player, isn't he? He came out at one part of the season and said, look, I'm fit enough to play 90 minutes. And the manager right away says, no, you're not. In my opinion, you're not. And I think today showed he's not fit to play 90 minutes. So moving forward, as much as he'd come on and scored a brilliant goal, he was unlucky with the one that was offside as well.
He's played a big part in it, there's no doubt. But I just feel that Celtic have got to move on from those two.
I wonder if we can also get away, Brian, a little bit from the he's not fit to play 90 minutes. Is the real question not about can he last the 90 minutes? Does his style and his current ability match what you're trying to do in terms of the way Celtic want to play? We saw the one where he's through. He's through and go by a mile. The defender easily catches him up.
Is it not more about that and what he brings? But then again, you need all sorts in your squad. Gordon says he's an impact player. What's wrong with having some of them? Nothing. Listen, if he did stay at Celtic, wages would be the issue. Celtic probably know what to pay, what they're probably paying right now, because when they first got him, they would expect him to play from the start.
Obviously, he got the hamstring injuries. He came back, he scored some important goals. If there were a conversation where the wage was reduced and he was an impact player, or he got the pre-season to prove his fitness, then it could be a different story. But You see the way Martin O'Neill was Celtic played. That's why Maeda was up there. We spoke about that work ethic for the team.
That's what Maeda gives you. He's pacing behind at times. Ian Atchell's not that. But then Spinett, you've seen some of the finishes earlier in the season. Well, it was a very classy finish today, wasn't it? Not just today. The one he takes in his chest, I think, is at Easter Road, where he scores that composure to score that goal today. He cuts inside.

Chapter 8: What are the fans' reactions to the Scottish Cup win?
In the actual, I would have him in a heartbeat. If not, Aox, I would have him as well. Let's face it, if we never get A2 points, we might not have won the league. Hold on, let's pause for that, right? Because I do feel like they're in different categories. Ian Achill's probably got a much stronger case because of the impact.
If you're going to talk about individual points, you wouldn't have got to this cup final...
without Junior Adamu but you're not clamouring to sign him you've surely got a bigger picture thinking it's a good point Gordon but you're taking the extremities there's always the exception to the rule and let's face it the boy Adamu was exceptionally bad ok so he was there in the picture but I would like to talk to Hugh I was on the show must have been 6-7 weeks ago 8 weeks ago Hugh said he would be a mug if Celtic won a league
Now, is Hugh going to come out and publicly admit he was a mug?
you've missed a few programmes Charlie I was presented with a mug last night from somebody called Charlie Charlie and Debs who sent me an I'm a mug mug and I've publicly said it Charlie on more than one occasion so you just haven't been listening someone very kindly sent me for you Hugh a trophy to sort of commemorate your terrible predictions and I feel so bad because I could only pick it up
on my way out of Clyde One HQ last night. We're not together this evening. This is my final show for the summer, so I'll need to wait. I can put it on my mantelpiece in the meantime, but to the person that sent it in, we thank you. How was your cake? How was your 0% chance cake?
Well, I'm not touching the cake until the two kids get up here from Brighton on Monday, and I want all six of my grandchildren to be photographed with the cake. So no one has to touch it. And Charlie, you missed that as well. I've got a big, big cake. I don't know who sent it to me, but my eternal thanks to you. So that's the business I'm in, Charlie. I made my feelings known.
I was three minutes away from not being a mug, but I ended up being a mug. And I have absolutely no problem in saying, I'm a mug. I'll be back next season with more.
read between the lines, Hugh doesn't want to feed his grandkids so he's giving them a free cake There's a lot to be said for getting predictions wrong, you know Hugh's got more trophies there than Rangers won this year, but I've got to say, we're on here to be shot down, we go where our predictions, I think Celtic fans looked at this Celtic team at one point and never imagined they could go on to win a double so congratulations to them I thought they were, it was an easy streak for them today, I know that
