2.393 - 35.269 Ella Mayding

Angels, we're in the Ella era. If you haven't yet, you have to go to the mum's hangout spot. The private breastfeeding or feeding rooms in there, they're actually better than mine at home. But being here today, I actually feel like I am at home because I go to Baby Bunting at least once a week. The Baby Bunting stock takes sale as well. If you guys didn't know, it is officially happening right now.

0

56.514 - 68.371 Ella Mayding

I've been talking a lot about mum guilt recently and it is such a real thing. Like... working, even just going to the spa.

Chapter 2: How can new parents manage mum guilt while transitioning to solids?

68.431 - 86.254 Ella Mayding

Like I've done it once. I'm six and a half months postpartum and I went to, it's like a wellness hub, like sauna, ice bath. Anyway, I had a major anxiety attack in there. It was the first time I actually stopped and did something for myself.

0

86.975 - 99.458 Ella Mayding

And I feel like doing something like this today, being able to share the room with all of you guys, I actually don't have mum guilt right now because we're all here together. We're all new mums. Postpartum is wild.

0

Chapter 3: What are the essential items every new parent needs for their baby?

100.099 - 118.24 Ella Mayding

And I feel like we're all almost on similar eras right now, like four to seven months. Is that... Eight months. So we're like almost at the stage of like starting solids. There's teething going on right now. Has anyone been up last night with a teether? It is actually scary.

0

119.342 - 142.477 Ella Mayding

Like Pia's not really a crier and the screaming and crying that I'm experiencing at the moment and like not being able to actually soothe her is... It is very overwhelming. There's not really a solution. Do you guys have any like teething tips? I know we're talking about solids today, but they kind of work hand in hand. I'm a prison hacker. Yeah, resin or formula isopole. Oh, yeah.

0

142.497 - 162.581 Ella Mayding

Or the fruit in the... Okay, that is a good one. I actually haven't been doing that. But I did that like a week ago and I've actually forgotten to be... Yeah, that's... Okay, I'm going to try that one. And there's that... Wellita, the teething powder? Try that, yeah. Okay, so I feel like that is working a little bit. And she's got like a teething toy that's a banana shape.

0

162.681 - 169.852 Ella Mayding

Anyway, that's very off topic. Okay. But I did want to thank all of you guys for being here. So you won your seats.

0

Chapter 4: How do you know when your baby is ready to start solids?

170.173 - 187.866 Ella Mayding

And as you know, there's a gift voucher for you guys to spend in the Baby Bunting store. And also one of you are going to be winning a freaking epic pram, which is crazy. So we will be doing that at the end. Now, I do want to share as well on... the podcast, you'd do a bit of a mum update.

0

188.287 - 220.388 Ella Mayding

And the most commonly asked question I get, I don't know about you guys with your friends, but I get asked, what are the baby essentials? Because obviously being in this store, like there's a lot of stuff, right? It is overwhelming. I I got so much unnecessary things. Like the stuff is everywhere. And there is really nothing aesthetic about a home, I think, once you have a baby.

0

221.414 - 233.956 Ella Mayding

Like this stuff is everywhere. I don't know about you guys, but like I try to keep it organized, but then I just kind of give up because there's like toys. There's like a song playing over there on repeat.

0

Chapter 5: What are the best first foods to introduce to babies?

234.116 - 255.5 Ella Mayding

And I'm just like in the kitchen. Like this is the new Spotify for me every day now. But I wanted to create a little bit of a list of what I needed, like cut the BS, you know, and I wanted to share that with you guys and as well the listeners because we do have listeners as well tuning in today. And I also have a girlfriend who is pregnant.

0

255.64 - 277.821 Ella Mayding

She's 36 weeks pregnant and she messaged me last week asking for like a no BS list. So I'm going to read you out my list and if you think that we should add to it for the listeners, go ahead. you can put your hand up and we can add it to the list. Okay. So for bub, nappies obviously are essential. Unless you're doing like the whole cloth thing.

0

278.542 - 296.228 Ella Mayding

Hats off to the people who do the cloth thing though. I think it's linen. It's like organic linen and you wrap your baby's nappy with a cloth and you kind of just like do the hand washing yourself. And there's a service that can come and pick it up for you to make things a little bit easier. But yeah, That's a no for me. Nappies are way easier.

0

296.408 - 323.038 Ella Mayding

And for me, I try to go for the more chemical free nappies. So I personally use tushies. One of my other no BS items would be the swaddles. Now, obviously every baby is different. Pia, actually there's a bit of a story here and I feel like I should probably share it. And this is another like typical Ella moment. And if you know me well, it's like no surprise. So when Pia came home,

0

324.706 - 342.093 Ella Mayding

Gosh, take me back to those days, though, when she was just like a little blob. And seeing some of the really small babies here, I'm like, wow, he is actually really growing up. But when I took her home from hospital, I kind of like it went over my head. I stopped. I forgot to swaddle her.

Chapter 6: How can parents reduce the risk of choking while feeding solids?

342.133 - 366.766 Ella Mayding

I was putting her to sleep with her arms out. Like, I don't know why. And my partner obviously didn't remember either. So we're just like putting Pia to bed in like the arm out swaddles or like the open arm sleep suits. She was fine. Like she was, she was sleeping kind of. And then I sent a photo to a girlfriend of mine of like the security cam of just like showing Pia asleep.

0

366.826 - 388.727 Ella Mayding

And my friend was like, she's got two boys and she's like, babe. Pia's arms are out. And I'm like, yeah, yeah, isn't that... And then I had a moment of like, oh, I've got like a bag of swaddles in the house. And I think I was around like two, three weeks postpartum and I hadn't really clicked on anyway. So the love to dream arm up swaddles.

0

389.569 - 415.804 Ella Mayding

I started putting Pia in them and she started sleeping longer. Wow. So tip. Okay, definitely have the arms either up or down. And I remember I had... Every tog still to this day, the room temperature, the tog suit is something that drives me freaking nuts. We live in an older place and our heating and cooling is not great. Like you can't set the room to a certain temperature.

0

415.844 - 438.045 Ella Mayding

Does everybody else have that? Or yeah, it's actually genuinely like I'm sitting in bed looking at the camera and I'm like, the temperature is going to drop overnight. Should I go and put a thicker sleep suit on? And I think that never ends until they're like in an actual bed with a doona. I feel like we will all continue to stress about the tog level or the tog number.

0

439.187 - 456.819 Ella Mayding

Does everybody agree with that? Okay. So definitely essentials have the tog suits in like every temperature that you need. And the love to dream is what I used newborn days and also ergo pouch. Now, my other recommendation is having a solid bedding setup.

Chapter 7: What common myths about starting solids should parents be aware of?

456.839 - 478.825 Ella Mayding

For me personally, obviously everyone's different. Some people co-sleep. I was too scared to co-sleep. I tried it. I had to do it once when I was in Sydney for work. But it just wasn't for me and like hats off to the moms that do it because you would not sleep even more so because you would be kind of passing out about, am I going to like roll on the baby?

0

478.865 - 504.544 Ella Mayding

Obviously there's all these ways that you can do it, but I never really had the guts to do it. So I had the side sleeper in the bassinet and Pia loved it. She went from sleeping next to me to the walk-in robe, which was like a weird suggestion that Dr. Golley actually had because she was keeping me up with all the grunting and like the weird sounds that they make early days. It's like... Whoa.

0

504.604 - 527.923 Ella Mayding

And it's like loud. But they're fine. But we're awake. And they're happily sleeping, but we're suffering. So Dr. Golly was like, okay, put the bassinet. If you have a walk-in robe with a door, put her in the walk-in robe. Mind you, we have a very slim walk-in robe. Like... I feel like if someone saw her sleeping arrangements, it may be questionable.

0

527.943 - 538.583 Ella Mayding

But ever since Pia had started sleeping in the bassinet, I was starting to get sleep again. So I think it's like whatever works for you. Who cares what people might have to say and think?

0

538.563 - 562.58 Ella Mayding

So whatever's going to help us as moms get that extra bit of sleep, even if it's like that 20 minute power nap and the baby needs to go on the walk in robe, the baby's going to go on the walk in robe in the dark, in the silence. And I've also got two cats and a crazy dog that do not shush. And there's that saying that you'll hate your pets forever. even more so when you have a kid.

564.142 - 583.469 Ella Mayding

I never thought I would, I'm not going to use the word hate because I feel like that's a very strong word, but I never thought I would dislike my very cute Pomeranian, but that's completely off topic. So the sleeping setup, whether it's a bassinet, that is what I use, but I think, yes, having a solid sleeping setup or the snoo as well. I know a lot of my girlfriends use the snoo.

Chapter 8: How do allergies factor into a baby's diet when starting solids?

584.129 - 608.254 Ella Mayding

Okay. My last suggestions for the bub. for postpartum if you're coming home, is the changing station setup. That's something that I learned very quickly when I got home from hospital. I ended up having an emergency C-section, the most traumatic experience of my entire life. Birth, I think in general, whether you have a vaginal birth or a C-section, even scheduled.

0

608.374 - 633.733 Ella Mayding

I think that birth is just like the craziest, quite scary. Obviously it's the most beautiful and incredible experience in the same breath, but it really is quite traumatic and nothing really prepares you for when you get home. And you like, for me, are recovering from a very unexpected turn of events. And you walk in the house and you're like, wow, my bed's low. My couch is low. It looks great.

0

634.274 - 652.86 Ella Mayding

But it's really low. And in hospital, everything is accommodated for you and like your recovery. Like the height of the bed. Who knew that like being able to get in and out of bed was so important for recovery? I didn't know that. I didn't consider that. And the changing station as well, like too low, too high.

0

652.84 - 678.947 Ella Mayding

recovering from the incision, like it still gives me like the heebie-jeebies when I think about the feeling the incision was, you know, having for those sort of six weeks. People say that you'll forget about the feeling. So they're all lying. Because I'm six and a half months postpartum and I can still remember the burning sensation like it was yesterday. And I will never forget.

0

678.987 - 694.795 Ella Mayding

And when that time comes for baby number two, the changing station set up is crucial. Because when dad goes back to work, he was three weeks postpartum, me postpartum. And yeah, I had to change the nappies whilst healing. And it was fantastic.

694.775 - 722.041 Ella Mayding

painful and you know I stopped taking the pain relief and you just feel every tug and pull on the skin and it was just like shit I need a yeah future changing station having it fully stocked and ready to go that is essential. That was a really long recommendation of things to have set up. So take note if you are listening, but did you guys have anything? Did I miss something?

722.081 - 723.605 Abby McClennan

The baby carrier.

723.625 - 745.823 Ella Mayding

Oh, the baby carrier. A hundred percent. I didn't actually start using that till about six to eight weeks. Only because of the incision. I did put it on and then I was like, ooh, I don't know if this is, because like that band sits kind of right there. So I couldn't use that for a little bit, but that's a good shout because I know a lot of babies only really nap when they're under.

745.923 - 771.231 Ella Mayding

Especially if it's the second, they don't run after. Yep, yep, definitely. I have heard. So the baby carrier is definitely an essential. Okay, now for the mama. Like the list obviously can go on, but I've sort of narrowed it down. if I had to choose my top products. Now, obviously the baby, first things first is nappies. For mum, first things first was the nappies. What a scene. What a sight.
