I was praying. Linda Arndt had said to me, we're hopeful that the kidnappers will just drop JonBenet off someplace. And I kept looking out the window, clutching this cross, and just imagining that she was going to come running down the street.
I remember walking in and seeing her lying there in front of the Christmas tree. I knelt down over her and just laid my body on her body and my cheek against her cheek, and it was cold. And Father Ra was there. He started saying the last rites, I believe. And I just kept saying, no, no, you know, ask God to raise her.
These were such a small, small, miniscule part of what Jean Monnet was all about. I think it's just because the photographs were so available and so beautiful that it took on a life of its own.
We sang that. She and I sang that together. We'd sing it driving in the car. We just knew that we would always be together in everything. I wanted my children to know that I was with them through thick and thin, regardless of what happened in life. Unconditional love.
What did you feel? What did you say? Well, we were outraged. We were shocked. How could they think that? We were a normal family.
I just didn't believe it. You just can't believe it. I mean, you were suffering from having lost our child. And then for someone to accuse you, it's just, you can't believe that that would happen.
If anyone knows anything, please, please help us.
And if I were a resident of Boulder, I would tell my friends to keep your babies close to you.
Unfortunately, at that time, we were so... When we look back at it, we were so distraught and medicated. It was probably not giving the impression that he had hoped we would achieve.
I'm a cancer survivor of stage four cancer. When you are standing on the brink of death with a terminal illness, your priorities suddenly line up. Bedwetting is totally insignificant. I love my children. I wouldn't harm them for anything in the world.
Insulted, pained, hurtful. How can I tell you how much I love my daughter? I love her from the depths of my being.
The police were more concerned with feeding the frenzy of media sharks every day than in finding the killer of our daughter.
JonBenet was an entertainer. She would entertain at the drop of a hat.
I'm a daughter. I'm a sister. I'm a friend. I'm a wife and a mother. John used to tell people that I invested in futures, the futures of my children. That's how I usually answer my occupations.
It makes me sad that there were happy little hands in this club. Now they're gone.
I don't know. I don't think I will be at peace until we find out who did this.
Hello, I'm Patsy Ramsey. This is Jean Benet. She's four. Burke is seven.
And from all of us at our house to everyone at your house, Merry Christmas and the happiest of New Years.
I went down our steps from our bedroom to the second floor. Then I started walking down the spiral staircase. And as I came to the bottom of the stairs, there were three pages neatly laid across one of the runs of the stairway.
I just remember when I read, we have your daughter, just this overwhelming fear.
And then I just screamed for John. Screamed.
And I mean, all this happened in a matter of moments.
You lose all perception of time, of place. You've just been dealt a horrible, crushing blow.
What we have learned is that everyone should have been sequestered into an area so that people weren't roaming around the house.
I don't think I want to answer that.
I believe that she came to me after she was killed and revealed herself to me.
Mr. Ramsey, you found the note. It was a handwritten note, three pages.
And John, you've subsequently read the note. Was there anything in there that struck you in any sense?
and uh we just were we were just frantic the police said a couple of days ago to assure other residents of boulder there is no killer on the loose here you can be assured everything is under control do you believe it's someone outside your home there is a killer on the list
Should I always wait for Patsy to answer?
Okay. Well, we've established a foundation. The foundation is going to focus on protecting children against predators.
Well, we've seen a number of flaws in our system as it relates to the murder of a child. We are the strongest, most powerful nation on Earth, and yet we don't respond with our might when one of our children is murdered. That's wrong. We want to advocate.
Well, and most important, when a child is murdered in this country,
have to find the killer that does two things it sends a message that we're not going to tolerate it if you think about harming our child our children you better think twice and secondly it ensures that we captured these monsters before they kill again I don't doubt that you have you know beneficent and wonderful feelings about about doing this kind of thing but how would you go about protecting a child
murder of a child be the most serious offense in our society. It should be a federal crime to murder a child in this country.
He should be, he should be put away forever. That's the most horrible thing a human being can do.
Well, we can offer rewards, substantial rewards for information. We can establish a tip center, an information center. We can establish databases that track known child sex offenders. We can put experts in place, make experts available to local law enforcement. We can advocate. in the United States Congress that the murder of a child should be mandated as a federal crime.
Federal resources should be put on attacking that.
No. Nor has anyone else. But we're going to try. We're going to do the best we can. Because it's a horrible flaw in our system. We respond aggressively when a bank is robbed.
