And for generations, ginseng hunters in the area have foraged the woods to find the plant, to sell it, or to make their own tinctures or teas. But wild ginseng is hard to spot.

It typically only grows on the shady side of a hill, and it blends right in with other plants like poison ivy and Virginia creeper. But if you can spot ginseng in the wild, you can make a small fortune. And that's why Larry Stone was foraging along Interstate 40 in Decatur County, Tennessee in September 2014. It was the first week of ginseng hunting season, and this was one of his usual routes.
