American English With Brent

EPISODE 118 DO AMERICANS CELEBRATE COLUMBUS DAY OR INDIGENOUS PEOPLES' DAY? | ENGLISH LESSON

12 Oct 2020

Description

In this English lesson, I explain how Americans celebrate Columbus Day or Indigenous Peoples’ Day. In recent years, the name of this three day weekend or long weekend has become pretty controversial. Some Americans believe that Christopher Columbus is a great man of history and should be celebrated. Other Americans believe that the people who were here before Christopher Columbus “discovered America” or arrived in America should be the ones remembered or celebrated during this second weekend in October. Some English vocabulary words I explain are: “air quotes,” indigenous, long weekend, three day weekend, and British holiday vs, American holiday. I would love to hear your comments about what you think this weekend should be called in the United States. 🇺🇸  🇬🇧  Follow this link for bonus credits from Italki for online English lessons: https://shareasale.com/r.cfm?b=1355613&u=2346050&m=70611&urllink=&afftrack=   🔷  Follow me on Instagram for mini-mini lessons: https://www.instagram.com/americanenglishwiththisguy/   🔷 To become a member, here’s the link: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCakDTg9dhhAsr3WmHyJDa-g/join   🔷  Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/americanenglishwiththisguy
