Mallaghan GSE: Innovation and the Future of the Ramp

17 Sep 2025

Description

Mallaghan GSE introduced new products and services at the International GSE Expo this week in Las Vegas. To find out more, Ground Support Worldwide Editor Jenny Lescohier spoke with Mallaghan Chief Commercial Officer Joe Griffith and Head of Global Customer Care Steven Fearon.  Here's a brief summary of the points discussed:  1. New purpose-built de-icer Mallaghan is bringing a new, purpose-built de-icer to the show, designed with its own in-house chassis. This is a significant shift from relying on third-party suppliers for a chassis. The design approach is meant to provide greater control over the product's innovation and allow for the seamless integration of new technologies in the future. 2. Electrification and proven technology The company will showcase its new electric lavatory service truck, the eTsu 3000. It operates on an 80-volt architecture, meaning it can be used with the same charging infrastructure as most existing ground support equipment, like baggage tugs and belt loaders. In addition, Mallaghan is highlighting its SkyBelt belt loader, which has a proven record of reducing aircraft damage rates to zero for several customers. 3. The 'Amazon of spare parts' is coming In a move toward digitalization, Mallaghan is launching a new online parts portal. This platform will function like an e-commerce site, allowing mechanics and fleet managers to easily find and order parts by part number, name, or the equipment's serial number. The goal is to provide a user-friendly experience with clear part images, live pricing, and real-time availability from its two main stock locations. 4. Digitalization and the future of the ramp Mallaghan sees the next phase of industry innovation centered on digitalization, AI, and autonomy. The company anticipates a future with autonomous ramp environments where technology makes operators' jobs safer and more efficient. The ultimate goal is to reduce aircraft damage, employee injuries, and to address the ongoing challenge of labor shortages. 5. Customer-centric support and hospitality While the new equipment and parts portal are a major focus, Mallaghan emphasizes its commitment to customer support. The new parts portal, while digital, is designed to retain a "personal touch" with designated coordinators for customer accounts. The company also looks forward to connecting with the industry at the expo, offering a three-piece Irish band and a customer appreciation event to foster relationships.
