“The gifts you have been given by God are divine and perfect. You’re worthy, you’re enough, you’re valuable.” Brian Keith Harris, II https://www.briankeithharris.com/ Author, Educator, Dancer, Preacher IG: @Brian_Keith_Harris “We expect our students to function at full capacity, but we are giving them a system that was broken for them from the beginning.” What does it mean to be an educator that functions in Black excellence? On today’s episode, Mr. Brian Keith Harris, II shares his journey through magnet school, HBCU undergrad and seminary, and gives us a glimpse of the examples he’s seen over the years. Mr. Harris speaks on the current educational experience and how it is impacting our student’s souls, spirits and voices, the systemic and strategic separation of students from their history and culture, the problematic origins of standardized testing and the legacy of trauma for students. In spite of the challenges, Brian shares an incredible moment of watching a child speak a thing… and then, live a thing, how he is prepared to continue the fight for equity, and how the arts is an intrinsic component of building relationships with the community.
