Sense of Direction

19 May 2021

Description

Sense of Direction Morgan Nickles Program Manager, Life Skills Teacher “We are such a creative group of people.” Have you ever felt unsure of your next step? On today’s episode, we are joined by Ms. Morgan Nickles, who’s non-traditional journey into education is filled with learning moments. Growing up in Chicago and currently teaching in rural Illinois, Morgan shares her story into college, how she feels about teaching in a conservative, rural environment, and the importance of making room for creativity to flourish. “These life skills… they already have them, we are just sharpening them up.” Morgan relates to students on another level, using her background in journalism and media management to craft communication campaigns and facilitate life skills lessons. She reflects on an incredibly impactful moment on race and identity (“are you Black?”), why she feels that education is in a state of emergency, and what continues to push her to speak up and find her voice.
