Description

“You cannot teach a child without teaching them self love first.” KeAnne C, Williams 1st Year Teacher, 4th Grade (math & social studies), Teach for America Gathering Information Related to Ladies (G.I.R.L), President 4th grade teacher KeAnne Williams has been preparing to lead a classroom of students since childhood. 2019-2020 was her first year as an educator. Nobody could have imagined how 2020, Covid-19, and school closures would impact us all. On today’s episode, Ms. Williams walks us through her educational experiences, and how her Chicago college prep education led her to attend an HBCU, with a heart of advocacy, love of politics and G.I.R.L. empowerment. Now, returning to the classroom as an educator, KeAnne talks about getting “schooled on school”, building relationships with students, being faced with the seemingly insurmountable challenges, and the big girl moves she plans to make in her career to address those barriers. The role of mentors/coaches/collaborators, minutes to breathe vs. minutes to read, and celebrating each and every win. Join us as we look at the classroom through the eyes of a first year educator, and receive words of wisdom from an educator activist…
