The Current & Future State of Sports Media, Broadcasting & Live Sports TV With John Shannon #inthepressrow

16 Nov 2020

Description

Even prior to the pandemic, the drumbeats from critics were growing louder about the overall decline in tv audience ratings in professional sports. Now, 9 months into the Corona, the losses are astronomical. Live sporting events, mostly without fans, some playing in the opposite seasons they have every played before and the industry is ripe with layoffs, cuts and uncertainty. In the middle of all of this racial inequality came to a head and now that too is being blamed for, in some cases, 60% declines in ratings. There are not too many people who have worked on the business side of broadcast sports as long as John Shannon has and he joins Jonah Sigel In The Pressrow talking about all of these issues. John leans in on what caused the decline, howe we may pull out of it and what the future could look like. He also, reluctantly revisits the dismissal of Don Cherry one year after his exit.
