Book Theory

A conversation with Ben Zauzmer, author of Oscarmetrics and Dodgers Manager of Baseball Analytics

26 Nov 2020

Description

We are ecstatic to have our first guest, Ben Zauzmer. He’s written Oscarmetrics, a phenomenal book that dives into how one goes about predicting winners during the biggest night in Hollywood, and how he’s been able to have a near-perfect record doing so. He brings light to many of the surprising predictive tools used, and takes a big picture view as well, devoting a chapter to each Oscar category. He also poses a question in each chapter that launches a discussion and pulls the curtain behind the numbers.  He's been published in The New York Times, The Washington Post, and The Hollywood Reporter, and graduated from Harvard college in 2015 with a major in Applied Math, parlaying his talent in numbers and statistics into his career. Recently, Ben is a 2020 World Series champion, having worked the last five years in the baseball operations department for the LA Dodgers to make the metrics a formula for success on the baseball field.  We’re super excited to have him on today.
