Catch Ups In My Kitchen

E.95 I Was The First British Asian Woman To Swim The Channel with Leah Chowdry

27 Feb 2024

Description

In my kitchen this week I am joined by Leah Chowdry who has made history by being the first British Asian Woman to ever swim the channel and she completed it in 14 hours and 44 minutes. Leah believes she was put on this earth to make a change and after a transformative experience in India, where she encountered the harsh reality of young girls subjected to exploitation and abuse, she was determined to effect change and break the cycle of suffering.Upon returning home, Leah realised that no other British Asian Woman had swam the channel and this therefore motivated her decision to take it on as her next challenge. Leah's endeavour wasn't without its challenges, as she tirelessly raised £105,000 to support her cause. In this episode, Leah candidly shares the rigorous mental and physical preparations required and how surprisingly, it wasn't the physical demands of the swim that proved the hardest, but rather the mental strength needed to shift from a mindset of doubt to one of unwavering determination.Leah's journey has been documented in her children's book, "Making a Splash," where she imparts the message that determination knows no bounds. Additionally, Leah has transitioned into a motivational speaker, collaborating with businesses and entrepreneurs to foster motivation and self-belief.This episode is a testament to the power of mental resilience, embracing a can-do attitude, and conquering obstacles through sheer determination.Topics that are discussed:Leah's experience in India and what motivated her to swim the channelThe physical preparations involved Her diet to prepare for the swim The Asian community's response to her taking on the challengeThe mental challenge involved in the swim The swim itself and the challenges involvedWriting her children's book "Making a Splash"Becoming a motivational speaker at schoolsBecoming a coach to founder and individuals on the power of mental strength and determinationBeing a strong woman and whether that's intimidating to men Sponsors:PARLA - Order your sustainable oral care - Here GEORGIASYMONDS for 10% off your orderHUEL - click here to top up on your HUELGeorgia’s Instagram - click here!Leah's Instagram - click here! This episode is hosted and produced by Georgia Symonds  Hosted on Acast.
