4. Performing At Capitol Hill & Working With UNHCR - Mercy Masika - The Play House

Mercy Masika is a Kenyan award winning Gospel recording artist, song writer and composer. She joined UNHCR’s LuQuLuQu campaign to fulfil her desire to do her part to transform public perceptions of African refugees. Mercy has visited Kakuma, the largest refugee camp in Kenya.  Her mission focused on women, education and the arts and included interactions with a group of female SGBV survivors, a visit to Anjelina Jolie girls’ school, a tour of Kalobeyei health Centre and Kalobeyei market as well as a meeting with young talented refugees who want to pursue music.  Mercy also performed her hit song “Mwema” at the first ever TEDx event hosted in a refugee camp – TEDxKakumaCamp. There, she expressed her deep attachment is to the refugee cause - and in particular her interest in issues affecting women and children. All of Mercy’s backup dancers during her TEDx performance were refugees living in the camp. Mercy has also performed at the 2018 World Refugee Day celebrations and the step for safety walk both held in Nairobi, Kenya.
