Conversations: Interpreting and Translating's Podcast

Season 1 Episode 11 - Jemma Ives, Interpreter/Translator/Teacher - VRI: An Interpreter’s perspective

25 Sep 2020

Description

The rapid shift to Video Remote Interpreting in Community Settings due to COVID-19 resulted in practitioners, language service providers, clients and technology platforms adapting to this mode of delivery almost overnight leading to VRI now being used as the preferred remote interpreting alternative in almost all Community Interpreting settings as it provides visual cues in addition to the audio feed.In this episode, I speak with Spanish Interpreter Jemma Ives about her experiences with VRI and the challenges she has faced adapting to this mode of remote interpreting in Community Interpreting settings.Jemma Ives is a Spanish interpreter and translator, and an interpreter trainer at Monash University.  Originally from Tasmania, Jemma spent much of her 20’s living and working in Latin America, and later graduated from a Masters of T&I at RMIT.  She has interpreted for politicians, international athletes, farmers, Aboriginal elders, tour guides, and world experts, in fields ranging from corruption to public health to engineering.  She is a member of AUSIT and has recently joined the editorial committee for InTouch magazine. Jemma is also involved in mentoring recently graduated interpreters and translators.Your interest and support is greatly appreciated and we hope you will join us for our events throughout 2020 and onwards.Don’t forget to visit our new training website for more information and PD opportunitieshttps://allgraduates.arlo.co/w/
