Ep.01. How do we evaluate creativity in a visual content?

23 Oct 2024

Description

"Triangulating Creativity: Examining Discrepancies Across Self-Rated, Quasi-Expert-Rated and Verbalized Creativity in Arts-based Learning" by Jenkatz Buonincontro, Richard Hass, & Elaine Perignat (2019) This research paper investigates the discrepancies between how photography students rate their own creativity, how quasi-expert judges rate their photography, and how the students themselves describe their creative process in interviews. The study, which used a mixed methods design, found that students often overestimate their own creativity, particularly in relation to their actual creative output. This discrepancy highlights the importance of considering domain-specific versus domain-general approaches to creativity and emphasises the need for interventions that help students understand the process of developing creative skills. The research also identified a new category of creative mindset: a "partial" growth mindset, which is characterised by a belief that some people are naturally creative while others need to develop their skills.
