China’s Internet Is Being Erased as CCP Tests System to Monitor All Online Activity

02 Aug 2024

Description

A new surveillance system now being tested in China would eliminate online privacy and allow the regime to monitor all online activity. The new system is being proposed as a state-run digital ID, which everyone would need to use for the internet. The program is raising deeper concerns, not just over digital privacy, but also on human rights abuses and digital theft. Moreover, large swaths of content on the Chinese internet are also just suddenly vanishing. Old news articles are disappearing on a large scale as the Chinese Communist Party erases a huge portion of China’s internet history. We’ll discuss these topics and more, in this episode of Crossroads.
