The Return of American Manufacturing

Two very different agendas are now at odds over the return of American manufacturing. One trend was that of so-called deindustrialization. The concept refers to the destruction of a nation’s manufacturing industry, with a shift to other forms of employment, primarily in the service industry. This trend was evident in the United States over the past few decades, with manufacturing industries heading offshore to countries such as China. Now, however, a new agenda is being declared: reindustrialization.
