Fictional and real characters are conflated so that many of the tales of this redoubtable seaman were doubtless first told about other heroes, now forgotten. However it seems possible that somewhere, among all the worlds, there was a genuine Shanks and that if there was, he might have looked a little bit like Stuart, who plays Tristan, and that various people resembling the other Hawks and even the GM may have been members of his crew at one time or another.
