A better future for online content and streaming in a post Youtube world with Jeremy Kauffman, Founder LBRY, Odysee

28 Aug 2022

Description

Jamil talks with Jeremy Kauffman, Founder and CEO of LBRY and Odysee in a really interesting conversation about the potential for a freer and less corporate controlled environment for online content creators. Big Tech and the Securities Exchange Commission: Good Sportsmen, Unfair Censors, or Common Thugs?, with Jeremy Kauffman, Founder and CEO of LBRY and Odysee Jeremy created LBRY because he fell in love with the idea of a shared, global content network that is owned and controlled by no one. LBRY is now used by more than 20 million people each month. There's certainly people who join LBRY because of YouTube's restrictive policies, but there's lots of other reasons: On YouTube, you build a following owned by Google. On LBRY, you build a following that cannot be taken away. On YouTube, you lose 30-50% of revenue to Google. On LBRY, you lose nothing (odysee.com may take a cut eventually, but you're not trapped in the same way, since everything is open source / forkable) On YouTube, you're the product. On LBRY, you're an owner and have much more control (psychologically appealing even if you're not breaking any rules) On LBRY, funds settle in minutes with no minimums You can tell the broad appeal LBRY has from all of the creators on it, compared to what you'll see on "alts", which typically is only the content that gets in trouble.
