There’s rarely a lot of money to throw at an ILS so, if you’re looking for free, open source alternatives, Dan’s got your back. Web Librarian documentation – While the docs aren’t 100% complete, they’re still very helpful Example Web Librarian PAC – A simple example of a WebLibrarian PAC on the Cyberpunk Librarian website. OpenBiblio – A free, open source ILS with many of the features you’ll find in a proprietary ILS. OpenBiblio documentation -You’ll need this, but it’s not a gargantuan undertaking to get it up and running. OpenBiblio Add Ons – Get yourself some Z39.50. Classify by OCLC – Need a Dewey number? Look it up on Classify. MARC records – Get basic MARC records from LoC. MARC records from library PACs – Polaris PowerPACs can provide MARC records under the Librarian’s View. Try the link for MARC data from the PowerPAC at Maricopa County Library District, or check out an example, or try other PACs in the area. Mesa Public Library Phoenix Public Library Chandler Public Library Amazon to MARC converter – Want to make a MARC record with a minimum of fuss, this Amazon to MARC converter can help. MarcEdit – If you must use MARC, use this. phpMyAdmin – Because writing SQL by hand is tedious. Koha – A FOSS ILS used by libraries large and small. Fully functional, completely awesome, and hard as nails. Evergreen – Another excellent, fully featured FOSS ILS used by libraries all over the world.
