Dear FoundHer...

Finding Your Inner Fearless to Achieve Ultimate Success with Alexa Curtis, Co-Founder of GrasshoppHer

22 Nov 2022

Description

“I wish a lot of young people knew that it’s OK to be different,” says Alexa Curtis, 25-year-old Gen Z entrepreneur and co-founder of GrasshoppHer. In 2011, at just 12 years old, Alexa started a blog called "Life in the Fashion Lane" as a way to escape the relentless bullying she endured at school. She used this platform to discuss everything from body image, mental health, to teen life. Eventually, she became a Radio Disney Host, before leaving to launch the Be Fearless Summit. Hear what this summit was all about and how it was acquired by GrasshoppHer, an upskilling community for women ages 24 to 37. Co-founded with McKinsey consultant Heather Miller, GrasshoppHer helps other women become fearless founders just like Alexa.Highlights from today’s conversation include: It’s important to talk to people. Ask them how they do what they do so you can learn to do it in a way that works for you. Figure out the natural extensions of your brand so that you can make more money without putting all your eggs in one basket. Look around you, at what is missing from your life, and build a business around it. Take a risk and go for it. No regrets.Quotes• “At the end of the day, trade shows and getting in front of people, and that face to face connection is really how you build that brand.” (16:17-16:26 | Alexa)• “The the opposite side of not taking the risk is the possibility that it works out. So if you take the risk, and even if it doesn't work out, if you've taken a risk, that's that dramatic, likely something is going to happen to you in your life, that's gonna make you realize it was worth the risk. So I would say, you have to go for it. Because otherwise I wouldn't want to live with that kind of regret.” (22:12-22:33 | Alexa)• “Limit your scrolling. The more that you're comparing yourself to other companies, the more that you're wasting your time not being focused on scaling yours.” (44:53-45:01 | Alexa) • “I don't need to work 24 hour days, that's a me thing. I used to work and wouldn't stop until eight, nine, and I was so tired, and I was still so unhappy. And that was something I really struggled with at Disney. Trying something fun and unique, that's personal or even business related, just makes you a well rounded person.
