Ep 76 - Stereotaxis, Levita Magnetics make attractive cases for magnet-powered surgical robot systems
01 Oct 2021
Get it? Attractive? Magnets. Yeh, we’ll, we’re tired from putting this monster podcast episode together but it’s so, so good. You’ll hear from David Fischel, CEO of Stereotaxis, a 30-plus year old medtech that’s going through a quiet but deliberate reboot. Fischel says he took the company over because Stereotaxis’ magnetic robotic surgery system makes interventional surgery safer, an assertion supported by Daniel Cooper, MD, associate professor at Washington University School of Medicine. Stereotaxis appears to be on the cusp of something big. Then, Alberto Rodriguez-Navarro, MD, tells us why he sold everything to move from his native Chile to move to Silicon Valley and start Levitra Magnetics. The company is anticipating FDA approval for its own robotic system that could help hospitals overcome staffing shortages during laparoscopic procedures. We’ll also hear our sponsor Futek explain how its miniaturized sensors are advancing robotic surgery. Chris Newmarker, executive editor of life sciences, delivers the week’s big news featuring Siemen Healthineers, LumiraDx, Boston Scientific, Abbott and Medtronic. Senior editor Danielle Kirsh updates us on the Theranos trial. Subscribe to this podcast on all major channels.
