Sometimes you get an opportunity that is too good to pass up - like when Will Hayward messages you at 4pm on a Friday with the idea to set up a Zoom call between Hong Kong, Colorado, Alberta, and Palmerston North to reunite the top four Big’s Backyard finishers before the Riverhead Backyard Relaps... And hey, did you guys want to jump on too? One expletive laden outburst (Matt) and heaps of negotiation (Eugene and Will) later and we had the immense pleasure to sit with returning champions Maggie Guterl, Will Hayward, Dave Proctor, and Katie Wright for their first catch up since Big’s and a wonderful conversation about community, the future of the LPS format and how we can virtually connect the world. Apart from Matt and Eugene pinching themselves the whole time there was also talk about a certain 500 mile FKT attempt,how ultra distance runners can empower positive change, operant conditioning as a force for good, and is Lazarus Lake, amongst other things, related to one of the founding fathers of the Grunge scene?
