126. Unpacking "The Superwoman Syndrome" w/ Cerita Yvonne

22 Mar 2023

Description

The ability to "do it all" has been the expectation and standard for black women for generations. This unhealthy characteristic of attempting to "have it all together" is a bondage mechanism for women to look and appear to be perfect. Underneath this covering of what many would perceive as strength, lies a woman who suppresses her emotions, neglects her self-care, unwilling to ask for help, and always feels obligated to help others. This repeated behavior of sacrificing your well-being consistently will inevitably lead to multitude of stress related symptoms, strenuous relationships and a low quality of life. Even though this a word that many are familiar with, what really matters is where do we draw the line? How can women begin to disrupt the generational pattern of perfection, take off the superwoman cape and step into her superpower of designing a healthier way to show up for herself unapologetically? On this week's podcast episode, join me as I talk with psychotherapist & certified clinical trauma professional Cerita Yvonne, as she unpacks this trauma behind being superwoman, how it impacts the relationships you entertain and how to begin to dismantle this belief of having to do it all.
