Luke Breust: The Bridge Between Hawthorn’s Golden Years and Hokball | #304

11 Oct 2025

Description

YESSS, this episode of Dyl and Friends is proudly brought to you by our friends at LIV Golf Adelaide. This week on Dyl & Friends, I’m joined by Hawthorn legend Luke Breust! Breust is one of the most reliable and respected forwards of the modern era. Over 300 games, 550 goals, and three premierships later, Luke’s story is one of resilience, consistency, and quiet brilliance. From being a rookie pick out of Temora to becoming a cornerstone of Hawthorn’s historic 2013-2015 three-peat, he shares what made that group so special, the mindset behind their sustained dominance, and what it was really like inside that powerhouse forward line with Cyril Rioli, Jarryd Roughead, and Jack Gunston. We also chat about his recent retirement, the knee injury that brought an early end to his playing days, and how he’s approaching life after footy. We chat family, golf, and his next exciting chapter as development coach at Richmond. It’s an honest, nostalgic and insightful chat with a bloke who quietly built one of the best small forward careers we’ve ever seen. Can't thank Luke enough for taking the time to chat, enjoy xx If you liked this episode, you'll love episode #258 with Dylan Moore.
