Green Construction – Jessyca Henderson, American Institute of Architects

10 Feb 2017

Description

"In 2015, about 40% of total U.S. energy consumption was consumed in residential and commercial building" According to the U.S. Green Building Council, "In the United States alone, buildings account for almost 40 percent of national CO2 emissions and out-consume both the industrial and transportation sectors, but LEED-certified buildings have 34 percent lower CO2 emissions, consume 25 percent less energy and 11 percent less water, and have diverted more than 80 million tons of waste from landfills. 1 [1]"   Listen to Jessyca Henderson, Managing Director, Policy and Community Relations at The American Institute of Architects (AIA) tell us about how building construction is changing, the impact of the new green construction code and what it means for you. "The IgCC is the first model code to include sustainability measures for the entire construction project and its site — from design through construction, certificate of occupancy and beyond. The new code is expected to make buildings more efficient, reduce waste, and have a positive impact on health, safety and community welfare." She'll also talk about women seeking careers in sustainable building.
