Episode 127 Celebrate Yuri Gagarin by Reading a European Space Agency Article -English Grammar

12 Apr 2023

Description

Since today is the day that the first man, Yuri Gagarin, entered space we're celebrating by reading an article from the European Space Agency. If you'd like you can read along with me. You can find the article here: https://www.esa.int/About_Us/ESA_history/50_years_of_humans_in_space/Yuri_Gagarin There isn't much difficult vocabulary in this article although there are some unusual grammar terms, I cover those at the end. Vocabulary I'm going to butcher your language - idiom - if we 'butcher' something it means that we damage it or don't do it well. This phrase means I will make mistakes with my pronunciations of the names and vocabulary in this article because I don't know Russian. that boggles my mind - idiom - this means to be confused and confounded racy - something considered sexually exciting cosmonaut and astronaut both mean people who work in space. painstakingly - if we do something in this way it means we do it well and with detail, carefully and completely celestial - in the stars anonymously - to not know the names of anyone laid to rest - idiom - common way to describe burying someone
