Episode 72 Vocabulary Words To Describe Looking At Things

We have covered words for looking before. In Episode 28 we covered watch, see and look. However this time we're looking at more nuanced words that you might hear or come across when you're reading such as Glance, Gaze, Glare and Glower. These words often have an implied meaning about an emotion or a way that we have looked. See you tomorrow when we'll be looking at phrasal verbs using 'look'. Today's Words Glance - to look quickly at something Gaze - to look for a long time at something, someone or nothing Glare - to look and someone angrily Glower - also to look at someone angrily but this time you might not actually be angry with them, you're just generally angry about something. Notice - to see something and recognise that it is there Observe - to see something and then pay very close attention to it and watch to see what happens next Spot - to see something that you wanted to see or were looking forward to seeing, could be a thing or person Lock eyes - to maintain eye contact with someone for a longer than normal period. Additional Vocabulary something to bear in mind - to keep something in mind manifest - to bring something into being, in this case the emotion exists on their face but that may be misleading interact - to talk with or communicate with someone or several people shifting our vision - 'shifting' just means 'moving' here, so changing what we're looking at oppressive - something that feels heavy or uncomfortable
