Episode 83 How English Articles Can Help You Improve Your English Daily

Today's podcast features a reading from Engoo. This is a really useful website for your English. You can organise the articles into different levels and categories so you can find something appropriate to your needs. Reading everyday can help you increase your vocabulary and Engoo shows you good examples of easy writing and reading. Read one article out loud every day to practise your pronunciation. Read one article every day and learn any new vocabulary. Work with a teacher. Read the article out loud, ask the teacher to correct your pronunciation. Work with a teacher. Read the article and then use the discussion questions to practise using the vocabulary from the article and speaking. Read the article and then use the discussion questions as writing prompts. Try to write down your answer to each question in good sentences and using the new vocabulary. Study different kinds of styles for different kinds of articles and try to write your own article using that style, structure or topic. In this episode I also mentioned the YouTube channel. Vocabulary Mysterious - something unexplained that appears to have no cause or reason. Bermuda Triangle - A place in the Atlantic between Cuba, America and Bermuda. Flight Tower - The tower at an airport where the air traffic controllers are based that works to ensure all flights travel safely. Region - An area, could be officially recognised or just locally named. Dubbed - named, this doesn't tend to be an official name. Supernatural - something unexplained that seems not of this world, such as ghosts. Navigator - the person who's job it is to know where you are and where you're going. Magnetic Compass - a compass that tells you where magnetic North is. Gulf Stream - a strong ocean current that runs across the Atlantic. In the podcast I wrongly described this as coming from Africa. Unpredictable - something we don't expect and can't plan for Additional VocabularyMany of these are common in business. a valuable resource - something that can help you with something You can address that - if we 'address' something then we deal with it or talk about it Make sure the tutor can catch where you have pronunciation issues - 'catch' here means notice and understand. Commute - the trip to and from work If you want to take this a step further - phrase - to 'take something a step further' means that we want to continue developing an idea scroll down - on your phone when you use something like Instagram or Facebook and you just roll through the feed
