Today we're talking about New Year celebrations in America and the UK. Of course all over the world people have different kinds of celebrations for New Year. Let me know in the comments what's normal for you and what kinds of things your family eats or does on New Year. I mention in the podcast about the ball drop in New York. You can see the video from last year here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xoTKv4d5yjc You can hear a traditional version of the New Year song Auld Lang Syne here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IZz1FYg8fmc See you next week for episodes 99 and...100!๐ฅณ Vocabulary It's a whole thing. - a casual (quite American) way to briefly sum up when we're talking about. Something that is much bigger to explain than the time we have. By saying 'it's a whole thing' the listener understands there is a lot more to know but I won't tell you now. jig - a traditional word for dance In this video you can see a traditional Scottish jig. The difference between this and an Irish jog is that the Irish usually wear special tap shoes and keep their hands at their sides. stanza - a verse in a poem Hogmanay - Scottish word for New Year's Eve Died out - phrasal verb - means something is no longer done or no longer exists. We can say 'the Dodo died out a long time ago' to talk about extinction. We can also use it like this to talk about languages or traditions.
