In this episode, I'm joined by Beatriz (Béa) Victoria Albina, NP, MPH, SEP, to explore her powerful concept of emotional outsourcing—the habit of sourcing our safety, belonging, and worth from others instead of ourselves. Béa shares how perfectionism, people-pleasing, and codependency are often survival strategies written into our nervous systems by childhood experiences, cultural conditioning, and even systemic forces. She explains the vital role of somatic awareness, why "kitten steps" create safer change than big leaps, and how to begin listening to your body's needs in the smallest moments—like pausing before your morning coffee. We also discuss: How your nervous system responds to stress, and the three key branches that shape your reactions The truth about being "too sensitive" and why big emotions aren't a flaw Practical grounding and orienting tools to stop reactive patterns before they happen Why midlife women struggle with authenticity and self-acceptance, and how to reclaim joy at any age The connection between feeling unworthy and using food to cope This conversation is both compassionate and fiercely empowering, offering real-world practices to help you step back into your own worth, safety, and belonging—without guilt or apology. About Béa: Beatriz (Béa) Victoria Albina, NP, MPH, SEP, is a UCSF-trained Family Nurse Practitioner, Somatic Experiencing Practitioner, and Master Certified Somatic Life Coach. She helps women break free from codependency, perfectionism, and people-pleasing by reconnecting with their bodies, regulating their nervous systems, and rewiring their minds. With over 20 years in health and wellness, she holds a Master's in Public Health from Boston University and a BA from Oberlin College.
