Modern Slavery: Matilda Ashurst Anti-Slavery Fellow Grant

23 Jun 2022

Description

Between 12-23 June 1840 the world’s first Anti-Slavery Convention was held in London and Ashurst founder, William Henry Ashurst, accompanied two of his four daughters, Elizabeth and Matilda to the Convention where they championed the fight to abolish slavery and speak for the equality for women. The convention was to act as a catalyst for William’s daughters who achieved many breakthroughs in their lifetimes when it came to social justice; particularly women's equality and the abolition of slavery. This episode is the first in a four-part series that examines the legacy of each of William's daughter’s, starting with the Matilda Ashurst Anti-Slavery Fellow Grant. Helena Yeaman, Social Impact Manager for Modern Slavery at Ashurst speaks with CEO Anti-Slavery International (ASI), Jasmine O'Connor about how the Matilda Ashurst Grant has benefited ASI, what kind of work ASI does today as we learn and understand more about what Matilda's legacy means.
