Eventful: The Podcast for Meeting Professionals

How – and Why – to Reduce the Carbon Footprint of Your Meetings

11 Feb 2020

Description

Last year saw a surge of public interest in climate change — and the impact of travel and meetings on the environment. Since travel, consumption and producing waste are often components of large-scale gatherings, pressure is growing on events to find ways to reduce their carbon emissions. But how can we accomplish this goal when travel, consumption and waste are usually integral components to gatherings of people? This edition of Eventful, produced as part of the Better Meetings, Better Future initiative between Northstar Meetings Group and Positive Impact Events, aims to answer these questions. The team at Positive Impact Events sat down with Miguel Naranjo, program officer at Secretariat of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) and Michael Schneider, assistant director of the International Air Transport Association, to discuss practical ways event professionals can reduce the carbon emissions, the role carbon offsetting can play, and how lowering carbon emissions can help achieve the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
