Nick Baumgartner: The 40-Year Old Snowboarder Who Defied The Odds To Win Olympic Gold

16 May 2024

Description

This week Andrew talks with Olympic gold medalist Nick Baumgartner. In 2022, Nick won Olympic gold at the age of 40 years old — becoming the oldest medalist in Olympic snowboard history. Along the way, Nick worked summer jobs pouring concrete to fund his dream & lived out of an old construction van to reduce his commute time to training. When he didn’t have access to his training facilities due to pandemic travel restrictions, Nick spent 30-hours building a pump track in his yard. Nick’s story is a shining example of what’s possible when we chase ambitious goals & are willing to do whatever it takes to make it happen. He is the author of the new book “Gold From Iron: A Humble Beginning, Olympic Dreams, and the Power in Getting Back Up.” In this conversation, you’ll hear Nick’s blueprint for taking action on ambitious goals, overcoming setbacks, defying the odds, & so much more.Show Highlights:0:00 - Intro3:02 - Childhood snowboarding memories4:25 - Excelling at multiple sports5:15 - Chasing ambitious dreams11:25 - Support system13:33 - Proving doubters wrong15:25 - Building a makeshift pump track to train22:00 - Improving at something new 22:20 - Success through incremental steps24:21 - First Olympic experience28:34 - Missing a small detail30:05 - Beijing Olympics31:55 - Power of sacrifices*** Nick's Book: Gold From Iron *** ** Follow Andrew On Social **Twitter/X: @andrewhmosesInstagram: @AndrewMoses123Sign up for e-mails to keep up with Andrew's podcast at everybodypullsthetarp.com/newsletter
