The daughter of a Japanese mother and a white, American father, she grew up moving frequently across the country and has lived in places including Northern and Southern California, Texas, Illinois, Washington, Vermont, and Kyoto, Japan. Her work often explores questions of identity, place, code-switching, anxiety, and how to write about a place or culture knowing that your knowledge of it will always be incomplete. She has written for The Washington Post; O, The Oprah Magazine; Shondaland; and more. She is also an avid knitter and loves learning other fiber crafts. Christopher Gonzalez is the author of the story collection I'm Not Hungry but I Could Eat, forthcoming from SFWP in fall 2021. His writing has appeared in the Nation, Catapult, the Millions, Best Small Fictions 2019, and elsewhere. He is a fiction editor at Barrelhouse and lives in Brooklyn, NY, but mostly on Twitter @livesinpages.
