Eye on Travel with Peter Greenberg

Travel Today with Peter Greenberg —Amtrak’s Crescent Line, NYC to NOLA

05 Jul 2017

Description

This week, Travel Today With Peter Greenberg comes from the legendary Crescent, Amtrak’s historic former Southern Crescent line—the rail route between New York’s Penn Station and New Orleans. The train goes back to 1849, and the route goes through 13 states and 30 separate stops. It’s a moving history lesson of the American South—past Civil War battlefields, new age Southern cities, and Louisiana bayou country. The trip also happens as Amtrak goes through a major change of leadership. Richard Anderson, Former CEO of Delta Air Lines, is about to take over America’s railroad at a time when it needs the most help. Joining me will be Kevin Riley, Editor of the Atlanta Journal Constitution and John Flynn, American singer and songwriter. Flynn performs original songs inspired by the sound, the rhythm, and the history of the train. Even Charles Frazier, Owner of Weidmann’s Restaurant in Meridian, Mississippi, comes on board with the restaurant’s signature black bottom pie—a graham cracker crust with dark chocolate ganache, topped with custard and bourbon-infused meringue. Yes, there are a few stories to tell about the pie…and Meridian. There’s all of this and more as Travel Today With Peter Greenberg comes from the Amtrak Crescent.
