The University of Iowa rowing team's 3rd Varsity four was named Big Ten Boat of the week, it's third such honor this season and the most for a single season in program history. The boat was recognized after winning two races and a runner-up team finish at the Big Ten Invitational last week in Sarasota, Fla. The Ascension of Iowa rowing has everything to do with new head coach Jeff Garbutt and his staff's recruiting aptitude. The Hawkeyes roster features international talent to be sure but the majority of the young women are from Iowa and the Midwest. Multiple sport stars that come from Track and Field, Soccer, Volleyball, Swimming, Gymnastics and basketball....even wrestling and a state champion dancer and cheerleader. The grit and competitiveness required for those sports have shifted nicely to Rowing. Jeff Garbutt has Iowa rowing to new heights.
