Girl, Take the Lead!
40. Book Discussion with Toni Morris: Burnout, The Secret to Unlocking the Stress Cycle by Emily and Amelia Nagoski
27 Oct 2022
Toni Morris joins Yo today to talk about the book Burnout. We have probably all experienced it and the authors, two sisters, Emily and Amelia Nagoski provide insights into how we can fight back. Toni brings a lot of insights and understanding to this subject as Executive Director of Experience and Engagement at John Muir Health, an integrated system of doctors, hospitals and other services in the San Francisco Bay Area. From about 2001 to 2013, Toni opened and led start-up health care facilities - from overseeing construction, to licensing/regulatory compliance, to hiring/training staff, physician recruitment, and operations, and also served as the regional director for business development and marketing for a national rehabilitation company. She has developed and facilitated training workshops for teams and leadership, and lead consulting projects at various health care systems across the country. She’s taught at the community college level and has been an executive/life coach since 2014. Throughout her career, the part of her work that has always resonated has been mentoring, teaching and helping people grow and pursue their goals! She is an author, and in 2012, founded a nonprofit organization, Bridges for Humanity. · Her writing has primarily focused on fictional stories that inspire young people to be their best selves, increase their self-awareness, and recognize their own strengths and value. She published the 1st book in a series of 5, written for young people (ages 6-12). · Bridges for Humanity provides experiential learning opportunities for students (15-19) to develop interpersonal communication skills, identify and address unconscious biases and build relationship skills. Here are some of the questions we explored: · What is burnout? · What is the difference between stress and stressors? · How can we complete the stress cycle? · What are signs we need to deal with the stress? · What is the Monitor concept? · What is the Human Giver Syndrome? · What are signs we need to recharge? · Who is the Madwoman within? More about Toni: Toni married her life partner when marriage equality became legal in 2013. Her first marriage started at a very young age (17). While that marriage ended in divorce, she did receive the gift of 4 beautiful children, and each has brought experiences to her life that have been educational, inspirational and a little bumpy!
