On September 3, Mexico and the United States issued a joint statement affirming their cooperation to tackle transnational organized crime. The criminal activities listed as a concern included drug and arms trafficking, money laundering, and fuel theft. Fuel theft is a huge problem. Some of Mexico’s largest crime groups are increasingly dependent on revenues from it, making tens of millions of dollars, which they then use to fund other illicit activities.
