Es ist ein paar Minuten vor Mittwoch, am 20. Juli 2012. In der Stadt von Aurora, Colorado, haben Hunderten von Menschen ihre Reise zum Century-16-Theater gemacht, um die Mittwoch-Premiere des neuen Batman-Films, The Dark Knight Rises, zu sehen. Viele Menschen im Theater haben diese Nacht für eine Weile gewartet. Menschen wurden in Kostümen gekleidet, Homemade-Signale geblasen.
Und manche kamen sogar schon vor, um einen guten Platz zu bekommen. Als die Lichter gedämmt waren, holten alle ihre Popcorn, Soda und Kaffee und sie fühlten sich zufrieden. Manche haben sogar einen Countdown gestartet. Fünf, vier, drei, zwei, eins. Am Ende des Countdowns stand das Film auf dem Bildschirm und das Publikum kreischte mit Entspannung. Aber sie wussten nichts.
Sie hielten auch die Momente ab, bis sich ihre Leben für immer verändert hätten. Denn nur ein paar Minuten nach dem Film stand ein Mann, der nach vorne sass, aufsteht und aus dem Exit aus dem Theater geht. Momente später kam er zurück durch das Ausgangsgebäude, das er geöffnet hatte. Except this time, he was wearing a gas mask, body armor head to toe, and he was holding a shotgun.
