10 Jul 2023
(00:00-23:23) – The Fan Midday Show opens on a Monday with Jimmy Cook and Brian Noe talking about Victor Wembanyama’s up and down weekend in his summer league debut. Then, they compare summer league action to NFL preseason games. What can we expect to see from Anthony Richardson next month and should we view it the same as Wembanyama’s first couple of games? When should Shane Steichen insert Richardson into the starting lineup? They then talk about who the most electrifying player is in the MLB. Shohei or Elly? (23:25-40:56) – Jimmy and Brian talk about the new NBA Cup that will be put into effect this season. Will this work in the NBA or will it turn into more of a punchline? (40:57-48:31) - Jimmy and Brian close out hour 1 talking about Jerry West’s legendary wolf comment. Also- what are your top five favorite movies of all time? (53:25-1:12:53) – Pacers Sideline Reporter and Pre/Postgame Show Host Jeremiah Johnson joins the show to talk about the NBA Cup, plus what the NBA summer league looks like for the Pacers. What do the impressive performances from Benedict Mathurin and Andrew Nembhard mean for the Blue and Gold? Why are these guys still playing in these meaningless games after playing so many minutes in the regular season last year? What does Oscar Tshiebwe need to prove during these summer games? Then, they discuss the steps the Pacers took this offseason to begin contention for the Eastern Conference Finals. How do Brown and Toppin fit with this team? Also, Brian asks Jimmy who the most thrilling NBA player is in the league. (1:12:54-1:30:35) – The long-awaited segment is here, where Jimmy and Brian debate who the most thrilling NBA, NFL and MLB players are today. Shohei Ohtani and Elly De La Cruz are the top two in baseball in terms of electricity according to the show hosts, but who wears that cape in football? Offensively is it Patrick Mahomes and Tyreek Hill? On defense is it Chris Jones, Jalen Ramsey, Aaron Donald or Colts DT Deforest Buckner? Where will Anthony Richardson fit into that list in the near future? Then, they turn their attention to the NBA with this debate and ask who the most thrilling player is in basketball. Is it Steph Curry without debate? What about the back-to-back NBA MVP and reigning Finals MVP Nikola Jokic? (1:30:36-1:34:04) – The one o’clock hour concludes with Jimmy and Brian talking Wimbledon. (1:34:05-2:04:47) – Charlie Clifford is a former anchor and reporter for WISH-TV in Indianapolis, but now covers the Reds and Bengals in Cincinnati for NBC 5. Jimmy, Brian and Charlie talk about those moments in sports that still haunt you years later. Then, the focus shifts to the NL-leading Cincinnati Reds and the surprise success across all major Cincy sports of late. Will the Reds be buyers at the deadline? Brian asks him the most burning question of the day- is Shohei Ohtani or Elly De La Cruz more thrilling? They then move to the Indy sports scene for a bit with Colts talk. Charlie leaves while Jimmy and Brian stick around to talk about the most scrutinized players in the NBA and NFL. (2:04:48-2:18:50) – Brian and Jimmy talk about how successful offense and successful defense correlates to who makes the playoffs. 11 of the top 12 offenses in the league made the playoffs while over half of the top 12 defenses missed the playoffs. Does defense no longer win championships? How can the Colts improve on an abysmal season on both ends of the ball? (2:18:52-2:24:56) – We close out today’s show with Rob Manfred boos at the MLB Draft and the JCook Plays of the Day for tonight's MLB Home Run Derby!
