What's going on guys? Welcome back to another episode of the Bryce Carver podcast. I'm Bryce and today we are on Luke chapter 17 of the 24 day Luke series. Guys, we're getting so close to the end. I pray that this series has blessed you guys. It's been a blessing to me. I'm super excited about this chapter 17. It is so powerful. I'm really excited to dive into this with you guys.
Before we get into it, guys, January 19th, 6 p.m. in Los Angeles. We've got our first ever live podcast show. It's going to be insane. It's going to be powerful. I would love for you guys to come out, be a part of what we got going on. It's going to be exciting. Moses is going to be there. Moses, come here. Come here. My dog won't jump up.
The one time I called Moses to get up here, he doesn't come up here. But come on. Look at him. Come on. But then every time we're naturally filming, he'll jump in my lap without me wanting him here. Hey, there we go. There we go. Yeah, he'll be there. He'll be chilling because I feel like every podcast, he's always with me. So for the live podcast show, he's going to be in my lap.
It's going to be awesome. But anyways, let's dive into chapter 17. This is so powerful and I'm super excited to read this. Let's start in verse one. It would be better for him if a millstone were hung around his neck and he were cast into the sea than that he should cause one of these little ones to sin. Jesus is saying something very important here.
He's like, temptations to sin will always be there. Notice how he doesn't say you're always going to sin 24-7, meaning that when temptation is thrown in front of your face, there's nothing you can do about it. He doesn't say that. But he says temptations will always come your way. But then he rebukes the one who sets the hook.
He's like, look, if you throw the hook in front of someone's face, fat rebuke, don't do that. Like, scold you. And then he says, it would be better for the person who leads someone into sin to literally tie a millstone, a heavy weight around their neck and then jump into deep waters and drown. It would be better for that person. Meaning like, meaning like judgment will come your way.
Like it would be better for you to suffer an awful death, a very gruesome, awful death, than to lead one of the children of God into sin. That is a big weight in gravity Jesus gives here about sin. There's a heavy weight to sin. Then he says, pay attention to yourselves. If your brother sins, rebuke him. Meaning if you know someone that sins, correct him, correct him.
And if he repents, forgive him. But if he turns from it, forgive him. That's so beautiful, meaning we don't hold grudges against people. There's grace. And repentance is actively changing a lifestyle. Like when we hear repentance, we often just hear, I'm sorry, Lord. But it's more than just an apology. Like there's action, turning from one lifestyle and going towards another.
And Jesus is saying, look, if someone sins, correct them. But if they repent for it, forgive them. Don't hold it against them. And if he sins against you seven times in the day and turns to you seven times saying, I repent, you must forgive him. Meaning don't withhold forgiveness from people. And I mean, it's just a practical thing. It's like a health fact.
